Built on the shores of the former Laguna Grande, Lake Elsinore City is surrounded by the picturesque Ortega Mountains and has a temperate climate that helps its reputation as a city filled with lots of year-round activities. Of course, at the top of the list of things the city is famous for are the outdoor activities like swimming, surfing, water skiing, and all normal things beach or lakeside-related. There is also a significant focus on fishing, with at least four designated public fishing areas available to residents.
The area can trace its roots as a city as far back as 1888, with a unique and interesting history, ranging from the time Native Americans called the area home through to the second world war when Elsinore Lake was used as a test area for seaplanes. The citizens of the city voted to rename Laguna Grande to Lake Elsinore in 1972 and they have consistently come together to preservice the area’s lake and natural beauty.
